When a Google Street View car meets a Bing car, only one can survive

There can be only one

There’s something beautiful about two ships that pass in the night, but what about two street-mapping cars? As it turns out, when two Google Street View and Bing cars pass each other, only one (in this case Google) will admit to it publicly. Like an embarrassed or jilted lover, Microsoft masks the memory of the Google encounter with a giant white rectangle in Bing maps. Though it is quite obvious given the massive camera rig that sticks out.

Google however, proudly shows off the Bing car in all its glory:

The brief interlude from July 2014 was spotted in a recent Tumblr post, which also reveals the missing part of the photo. The obscured portion shows a forlorn Google driver acknowledging his Redmond foe with a wave, unaware that he’ll soon be rubbed out of existence forever.
